Ruahine kayaks are designed and manufactured in New Zealand. With more than 20 years of experience in building racing kayaks, Ruahine leads the way in fast adventure racing kayaks.
This Racing Sea Kayak was designed specifically for the “Length of New Zealand Race” and built around the safety criteria drawn up for that race. The OceanX is built along the lines a long racing surf ski, so it is very fast and tracks very well in the sea, it also very suitable for kayak racing in the many harbours, estuaries, fiords and lakes, it also lends itself well to the kayak sections of many multisport races and fast touring.
The OceanX is fast, light, comfortable and surprisingly stable. It weighs only 44 pounds ‘fully rigged’.
This latest addition to the Ruahine Kayaks stable is 20.8 feet in length and has a maximum beam of 19.7 inches. It is fitted with foam bulkheads and hatches front and rear. There are decklines on front and rear decks. Steering is from a Kengineering fully retractable hydrodynamic rudder controlled by OZO footrests and toe flaps.
Kengineering dynamic flip-up rudder gives up to 80% less drag than flat bladed rudders and vastly improves turning efficiency.
The OceanX is a fast kayak designed for racing. This kayak is not as stable as most touring kayaks. Suggested for only intermediate to advanced adventure racing paddlers.
Kevlar lay-up has a complete kevlar hull and deck with carbon-fiber stiffening through the cockpit/footrest area.
