The Osprey Exos 46 backpack is incredibly lightweight, and with AirSpeed suspension is also ultra comfortable. Ideal for thru hiking and super lightweight backpacking.
The AirSpeed suspension uses aluminum stays to tension a breathable mesh backpanel so that air can circulate across your back. BioStretch shoulder straps and hipbelt use mesh covered slotted foam to provide ventilation, support and comfort.
Zippered mesh hipbelt pockets and stretch energy gel pocket on the shoulder strap give you quick access to frequently needed items. Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole attachment on the left side allows you to quickly attach poles to free up your hands without taking off your backpack.
Four position sternum strap adjusts up or down to where it is most comfortable for you. Sternum strap buckle has a built in whistle for safety. Load lifter straps allows you to adjust more weight on either the shoulders or hips for increased comfort. Waist straps pulls from the top and bottom of the hip belt for increased support and comfort.
Vertical zippered rear pocket provides quick access to a separate storage compartment. Inside the main compartment is a hydration sleeve and port to accommodate hydration reservoirs. Quick-release strap secures the reservoir and keeps it from sagging. Hydration sleeve is large enough for a 128 ounce reservoir.
Mesh side pockets and stretch woven rear stuff-it pocket provide plenty of external storage. Side compression straps enable you to adjust the volume to perfectly fit the contents of your pack. Quick-attach bungee loops enable you to strap ice axes or trekking poles to the pack. Sleeping pad straps are located on the rear bottom.
The removable lid has two zippered pockets (1 external and 1 under the lid) and locks down with twin buckles for quick access to the main compartment. A compression/rope carry strap under the lid increases functionality.

“1. We’ve field tested overnight packs this big and light before, but none as stable as the 2.3 pound, 2,800 cubic inch Exos 46. The usual ultralight materials and buckles are in play, but it’s the suspension-a superlight aluminum skeleton securing a mesh back panel-that makes the Exos stand out. In addition to keeping the load taut and secure, the system allows for breezy ventilation.
2. Though light, the Exos 46 isn’t a Spartan sack; it’s got side compression, pockets galore for everything from a shovel to snacks, and a smart shoulder mount for stashing trekking poles. There are also additional front compression straps and an adjustable tool attachment that’s big enough to carry tent poles. Considering its barely there, I can’t believe how tricked out this pack is, gushed one tester.
3. It’s versatile. The Exos 46 can double as your go-to daypack, but it’s also just big enough to overnighters. It was the perfect size for a daylong mountain bike ride from Boulder up to Winter Park via Rollins Pass. Just don’t overload it-no more than 35 pounds-and be gentle with the lightweight buckles and materials. It’s also available in a 2,050 cubic inch and 3,500 cubic inch versions."
