Ruahine kayaks are designed and manufactured in New Zealand. With more than 20 years of experience in building racing kayaks, Ruahine leads the way in fast adventure racing kayaks.
This new, fast, smart looking kayak supersedes the very popular Opus. The original Opus was designed with the help of Richard Karn from Team NZ and was described by kayaking legend Ian Ferguson as “the best balance of speed and stability”.
The new Ruahine Firebolt is an advance on that design and description. It has easier paddle entry, a finer cutting bow, a lower foredeck and a wider rear deck for more secondary stability. All this makes the new Firebolt faster and more stable in white water and less vulnerable to strong winds in open water.
The Firebolt is 5.9m long and has a max beam of 455mm. Fitted with a new footrest and also a bilge pump.
Fitted with the innovative Kengineering dynamic flip-up rudder that gives up to 80% less drag than flat bladed rudders and vastly improves turning efficiency.
The Firebolt is an extremely fast kayak designed for racing. By american standards this kayak is very tippy. Suggested for only advanced adventure racing paddlers.
Kevlar lay-up has a complete kevlar hull and deck with carbon-fiber stiffening through the cockpit/footrest area.
